I'm not sure this is the right section. Sorry if its not.

First off, Hello. I'm Erich.

Recently, I've gotten pretty bored of World of Warcraft, so I decided to go out and buy a new game. I loved the PvP aspect of WoW, so I bought Fury and installed it a few days ago. To my suprise, I couldn't run the game for more than a few minutes before the temperature of my video card sky rocketed to 80 degrees celcius. Artifacts were all over my screen. I shut off my PC immediately and let my card cool off.

Since last year when I bought my PC, I've had a bit of an issue with heating problems, but it would only result in a single object stretching in WoW and I could fix it by minimizing and re-opening the game. I'm guessing because Fury is a newer game that its more then my card can handle?

So, today I decided that I couldnt wait any longer to play Fury and i went out and bought a small fan that i placed under my video card. The only thing the fan did was give me an extra 5 minutes to play until the temperature got hot again. Even when I don't have any programs open, the card's temperature sits at about 50-55 degrees celcius. Shouldnt it be lower?

Random Info:
I have a Geforce 7900 GT
The air is NOT hot where my computer is
It is not packed into a tight space
I dust it frequently (2 to 3 times a month)
and I have a large Case with 4 fans, which are all working.

I'm really confused and I'm not sure what to do, so any support would be appreciated.

As I mentioned above, I dust my fans 2 to 3 times a month. But even right after i finish dusting, the temperature still sits at about 55 degrees when no programs are open.

I have one fan in the front towards the bottom of my case thats blowing in and 2 fans towards the back which are blowing out. I also have a fan on the side of my case that is pointed almost directly at my video card / motherboard, along with the small fan I purchased yesterday and placed under my card.

Also, every other part seems to be running at a fine temperature according to speedfan. The videocard is the only issue i have.

well you have a couple of options here.you could try to reseat the video card heatsink with fresh thermal paste,or you could get an aftermarket cooler for it.
Well, I was thinking about getting Vista and an 8800 soon anyway, so I'd probably go with the cooler. Would water cooling be my best option? I've heard some of those can be pretty unreliable.

P.S - I got Fury to work, but I had to turn the settings down to the lowest possible. And still, at those settings, my temp is around 65 degrees. But, atleast its playable.

Anyway, if I could get any suggestions for a good cooler, that'd be great. Thanks.

buy yourself a liquid cooling system..it helps a good deal...and if you have to reset your settings..and it is heating up...it usually means your computer doesnt have enough power to play the game...if your cpu is overheating, it means its too slow...if your computer is freezing..it means your RAM is being allocated by something else which is making it freeze...if your game has fps issues with low in-game graphic settings, means you need to have a more powerful graphic card...at least this is my understanding..hope it helps
I already knew most of what you said. Like I said before, the graphics card is the only issue I'm having. Everything else has a spot on low temp.

A liquid cooling system was indeed one of my options, I've just heard horrible stories about them, and theyre a bit on the expensive side. If I could get some suggestions for the best brand / model, that'd be great.

EDIT: Hey 0wn3d, why did you ask about my PSU? I never thought that would have anything to do with videocard issues. =/

Well on the box of my card it says the minimum power supply is 450 watt, so I think I'm alright when it comes to that. Still no suggestions on a brand or model of liquid cooling system? =/
