VIA AC'97 sound card question

Hi, running win98se - system model-VIA Tech. VT8363 and system mainboard -EPOX -- VIA KT133/a chipset. Downloaded Yahoo and began using voice chat. Worked great, then all of a sudden, I was unable to use it. My volume controls are gone. When I go into device manager, VIA Ac97 is not showing for playback and record, my modem is showing instead (USR). The yellow exclamation point that was covering VIA AC97 is now gone and I downloaded newest drivers, but still no volume controls. When using the voice chat, everyone can hear me, but I can't hear anyone else. Any suggestions?

Have you gone into the control panel under multi media and told it to use the sound card instead of the modem?

Thanks Danrak for your reply. There was so many things going wrong that I wound up getting the hard drive reformatted and win98se reinstalled. Also had a sound card installed this time, lol. Thanks again...
