I'm thinking of buying a dual-layer dvd burner for my pc to convert vhs tapes to dvd. What would be the procedure to connect the vhs player to the pc so recording could be direct from the vhs? Could the computer be used for other tasks while the recording is done?

An alternative is to buy a combination VHS/DVD player/recorder. I recently bought one from Daewoo for £200. It can copy VHS tapes to DVD+-R/RW using settings for standard, high-quality, extended etc to allow 2/4/6 hours of recording time per DVD.

Other features:
Records from TV to VHS or DVD
Plays MP3 compilations through your TV, so you can put about 50 albums onto a DVD and select tracks through the on-screen menu (like the XBox MP3 player).
Jpeg slideshows for viewing your photos on TV.
