I have a cq62-211he with a v120 cpu. can i upgrade to a duel core? or any upgrade at all?

WQ858ua -p/n

{Private Information Removed}-s/n

AMD V-120 single core

785gx chipset

sb800 southbridge

hp 1444 motherboard version 69.37

s1 ( 638) socket

4200 ati series gfx

win7 64 home edition/U.S.A

4gig memory 1066

bios F.29

I would like to put in a duel core.

Should i stay with the 25watt tdp or can i safley go 35?

Would upgrading to a turion 2 520 2.!important 3ghz be worth the boost for some games?

or the phenom n620 2.8 ghz.

Is there any upgrades that can be done with the cpu that would give some perfomance benifit?

Wanted to get some expert advice on this before i dive in.

I have looked through the owners manuel and it very confusuing listing other cpu's but not saying if i can use it in mine.

the v120 processor is used for rev 1.0 only so im deducing that thats what i have. also the ram i have is 1066 so am i limited to 1066 for cpu too..seems logical. also it has a 25 important tdp should i stay with a 25 or can i go 35? There are some cpu's that are not rev limited so does that mean i can use it. I called hp support and they told me that it is impossible to upgrade and stated it was soldered in. Well thats a lie! Seems hp support does not know its own products and simply wants me to buy a new computer. I would just like to go to a duel cpu and was wondering if the turion 2 520 would be a good choice. Any input would be greatley appreciated! Thanks.

Your first link is to a battery and the 2nd link to a antenna adapter.
Brand Name and complete Model Number of your laptop.
OEM PC Mobo/Bios are made form them so determining what CPU's are/are not compatible can be very difficult.
The manufacturer is usually the best source of accurate information. But, as you have discovered, OEM support is very lacking in that are primarily because they are in the business of selling new units.
Are you certain the CPU is not soldered in? That not uncommon for laptops.

hp compaq pressario cq62-211he

have no idea about those other links..weird.

Its not soldered.

Ive seen alot of systems with the athelon 2 340 with the excact same configuration..motherboard revision...chipset...ram and frequency...bios version..so im confident that will work but was seeing if a turion 2 520 or any other would work.

this is mainly to give a slight boost to some mmorpgs that use duel core until i can build a gaming rig which will be awhile..lol. think the xtra l2 cashe will help also.

If that is the manual for your system then you should have a look at the processor section it says this is the best cpu you can get AMD Phenom II P960 Processor (1.8 GHZ 2 MB L2 cache 1066 MHz)-Quad core 25 W (for model
1.2 only)
634689-001

That is if your model is 1.2

it has a v120 which was for the 1.0 only so im thinking this is a 1.0 revision
I ended up ordering a turion 2 p540...9 bucks on ebay and everything seems to match and i found a guy posting about an issue and he had this cpu with the excact same board and rev, bios, chipset, ram freq..chipset etc

I checked the specs and it has the same memory contoller on it and the same bios.
I cant see why this wont work so as soon as i get it and put it in ill post the results. Hopefully nothing bad..lol/
Been at this a week to make this decision so well see.

Thank you for taking time to answer.

Well just got the turion 2 p540 today and installed it and walla! It works great. Had 1 blue screen when i 1st started then after a restart no issues.

Cpu runs at 48c at idle.

One thing i noticed is that the gpu had some kind of goouy white pad on top and i tried to see if i took that off if the surfaces wouls mate and they did not..could i bend the copper a bit until i see good contact?
I used zalman on both cpu and gpu but when i pulled back the gpu showed no contact so i put the goouy pad back on. Dont have anything telling me gpu temp but i really would like a metal to metal contact on there.

Any thoughts?
Thank you

that was probably thermal paste for the heatsink on the fan. Usually if you remove thermal pads or paste then you have to apply new pad or paste because you will have made the pad or paste redundant and therefore the card will over heat.

Just thought i would throw an update here...I played eq2 on high quality settings less shadows and low charecter detail and got 20 fps 90 percent of the time. What a difference, Been playing for over 7 hours and no hiccups so its a good upgrade if you have the same board and such. 3dmark06 went from 1616 to 1809....cpu went from 933 to 1914. I know those are very low scores but it did help for a very low end laptop. temps run anywhere from 50-70 c depending on what i do.
so a v120 to a turion 2 p540 works great!

Yea it was a pad..i wish it was more of a metal to metal contact like the cpu but that would intail alot of maniputaion of the copper tubing and that could work harden it..i was toying with the idea of using a feeler gauge to see what that gap is and put a peice of copper there with thermal paste and see if that would cool better than that pad. I really just dont have a way to tell what the gpu temp is..apparently there is no sensor for it.

not sure if it will work but see if Real temp will tell you any temps.

You will know if your gpu starts overheating as you will see what happens on screen when a gpu does overheat.
