I'm using an Intel P4C800E Deluxe mobo and Win XP HOme. If I purchased a SATA 300MB/s HDD would it run at that speed on a mobo that was designed for a SATA 150 MB/s HDD? Would it run at its full speed or would it get cut down to 150MB/S? Thanks.

Welcome to TSF:

Given all the little performance B.S. manufactures like to peddle / I would have to say the 300 mb/ sec drive rate is not a real world sustainable performance / rather 150mb / sec would be much more realistic if thats not hyped / i dont believe even the Sata drives can maintain a consistent 150mb /sec better research carefully >> burst rate means nothing to me !!

With your mobo / I strongly suggest you consider a Promise SATA PCI card controller to run your sata drives with / the Intel onboard ICH5R controller is a very fussy little pain in the buttocks. You can buy the Promise sata controller card cheap on newegg.com ~~ about $35.00 to $40.00

regards

joe
