I have a Gigabyte Super4 GA-A75-D3H Desktop motherboard and the usb ports are not being detected.

is there a driver or something I can download and install to activate these ports? or is there, maybe, something in the BIOS that needs to be enabled? I have checked already and all of the usb ports are listed as 'enabled' so...what else could be wrong?

You say the USB ports are "not being detected" and later you say "all of the usb ports are listed as 'enabled'".
I assume you mean they show good in Device Manager but won't recognize anything that is plugged into them?

that's right. they don't detect anything. in device manager under 'universal serial bus controllers' a number of usb entries are listed and all of these are 'working properly'. BUT, under 'other devices' three usb controllers are listed and all of these have a little yellow/black exclamation mark in the corner and, under properties, they say "The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)".

what can I do??

yes, I think so. it's a hp printer/scanner. the printer works. the scanner does work too but I can't pick it up on my comp. what prog should I use with it?

If the printer works and the scanner does not then the problem is with the unit.

whenever I try to access the Hp solution centre, it asks me to plug in the usb cable or rerun the set up program. the usb cable is already plugged in and I am able to print. why, then, is it not detecting it?

HP software is often a mystery to me and I refrain from using anything HP primarily for that reason. If I am forced to install a HP peripheral, I try installing only the required drivers and skip all the HP "help" apps.
If you are certain it is not user error, try reinstalling the software.

I had the same problem with my Samsung Laser Multifunction printer. The printer part worked fine, but not the scanner. It turned out it used two different programs. One set of software for the printer, and another set for the scanner part.

ok, so what software do you suggest for my hp? I don't see how changing the prog I'm using will determine whether it's being detected or not but *shrug* I don't know....

Republic3D is referring to a different brand but the premise would apply.
All required drivers should be on the included CD. If you selected the express install, or whatever HP calls it, all drivers should have been installed.
You could try reinstalling the drivers.

at HP they have smaller driver packages for just the printer driver or they also offer the full featured driver / software application which I call the bloatware LOL

sounds to me like you need to install the bloatware

Try the printer/scanner on another PC. It's possible the unit is defective.
