Hello, here is the spill. Got a desktop, running Ubuntu, has ONLY USB ports, NO PS2 ports what so ever.

during bootup we see the lights on the keyboard flash for a moment. so that rules out the mobo. we want to get into the bios, but since the keyboard is not being detected that is a no go. we also took out the cmos battery, had it unplugged. left it for 2-5 min started it back up with the battery. and still nothing. I read on here about to switch the jumper setting. What jumper on the mobo are they talking about. How do we get into the BIOS by hitting f12, when the keyboard is not being detected. Oh we have switched the keyboard to different USB ports to see if it was a port problem. it is not.

not custom built.

It is a Dell DXP051 Series
Phoenix Rom Bios Plus version 1.10 A07
HDD is a samsung sata drive with 250GB
about 1GB RAM.

there is no operating system on the hard drive now. I slaved it on another computer and formated it with NTFS format.

no when doing boot up. it is saying that keyboard not detected, press f1 to continue, or f2 for something else. and we cant get it to do anything bc it is not detecting the keyboard. sometimes it does for a couple of sec. then it goes right back out again. it is not the keyboard, we tested another known good one. Same thing. and the other one was tested on another computer. It worked fine. And their is no USB Legacy.

sounds like it is the motherboard or at least the usb ports. This is the problem with dells no ps2 ports. when the computer turns on and says keyboard not detected if you press the num lock key does the light stay on or turn on at all???

it is a wired USB keyboard, we have tried serval keyboards, even the legacy keyboard, tried every usb port during startup. everyone lets the keyboard do something for a couple of seconds. We have reseted the BIOS by unplugging the power, and took out the battery for about 5 min. Still nothing. I even did the reset jumpers on the motherboard.
