have a laptop with only one usb port on it which works, so I decided to buy a usb hub. When I connect the hub I am getting a message that ' this product will perform better if connected to a high speed usb 2.0 port. For a list of available ports click here.' meaning the box. I have looked at usb in devices manager when I open it up I have 3 host controllers a usb mass storage device and 4 usb root hubs. How do I know which one I am using? i've also opened up ports and I have (com+lpt) amd printer port lpt1. How can I get this hub to work?

cant get anything from my device. Do you think the one usb port I have on the laptop is not usb 2.0. I can get the port to work without the usb hub if I plug my external drive into my one usb port, so there is nothing wrong with the port.

How old is your laptop? USB 2.0 replaced 1.0 & 1.1 over 10 years ago. Test your new hub on another computer. It might be defective.

Could also be that your laptop is providing insufficient power to the hub to allow it to power the external HD. Did you USB hub come with a power connector?

They have not had a USB 1.1 port on a computer since 1998. So, you have 2.0 speed.
When you get this message it means that there is not sufficient power to the Hub. If the Hub came with it's own power adapter, be sure to use it and plug it directly into the Wall and not through a power strip or extension cord as this diminishes the power.
