I have a dell insprion 1100 laptop. When I plugged my ipod up via the usb port nothing would happen. It would not recognize the ipod. It would not recognize any kind of flash drive either. But my usb camera and a different mp3 player would work just fine. I uninstalled the usb ports and now I can not get them reinstalled. I have tried to reinstall the drivers through the device manager but it would not work. Any suggestions? Thanks.
Once you get your usb ports to work, before connecting your ipod make sure you run the software that came with it and make sure your ipod is formmated for PC.
Many people who install SP2 over SP1 run into problems. I wouldn't try installing over itself. The best method is either get an SP2 disk from MS for $4 or make a slipstream SP2 disk. You can also try a repair install.
All of the USB drivers are native in SP2. Did you upgrade to SP2 over SP1 or do you have an SP2 disk?
installing sp2 on sp2 is something i didnt try. If you have a windows xp cd with sp2 you can try a repair installation. If there is a corruption as you suspect it would swap the files with the new ones. Might help you.
