The mouse/keyboard on my system stop working randomly. Both will indicate power is going to them. However The keyboard will not type anything and the curser will kind of vibrate on screen though be unmovable.

I've updated dated drivers, formatted and reinstalled windows, the issue occurs on both USB controllers. I use Windows 7.

Any advice would be appreciated, at this point I'm thinking the hardware is just a lost cause, its a core2duo system so it has some years on it.

What's the make/model of mouse/keyboard? It could be that the ports on the keyboard/mouse are bad and not necessarily your PC hardware.

That could just as easily be an aging hard drive getting ready to quit.
