USB Connector on a Seagate 150gig

1048 Views 5 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  kev1952
Today a very foolish person knocked my External hard drive about 2 feet onto my hardwood floor. At first, it seemed fine but when i went to plug in the USB connector in the back the port had actually moved "into" the casing. Now it isn't recognized by windows at all. Is there anyway that this fall broke connection between the USB port on the back of the Seagate and something inside the Seagate?

Sure sounds like it, doesn't it? Personally I would be more concerned about the state of the hard drive itself. Open the external case, remove the hard drive and slave it to your main drive (internally). Run a full error scan on the drive to check it's condition. Even better would be to download the manufacturer's diagnostics and run that over the drive.
OK. the other thing is, is there a place that you can buy speciality screwdrivers? There are 4 screws and they look like a 5 pointed asterick with a dot in the middle so i cant put a hex in there.
If you go to a store like Tandy (or any other good electronics store) you should be able to buy a set of them. Usually not very expensive.
Thanks for all your help! I'll post if everything works out.
I'd be interested in the result. :)
