Hello

I was 5 minutes into BF2 game, and my computer just went off - it doesnt switch on anymore. There were no weird noises (like something blew off or anything), it just went off. My monitor and everything else works, but the PC itself doesnt turn on.
I opened up the case, and there is a green light on my motherboard, so i guess the power is reaching it.
My computer specs are:
Intel P4 3.2 Ghz
ASUS P4C800-E Motherboard
1024Mb RAM
Sapphire ATI Radeon 9600Pro 256MB RAM
etc.

Can anyone tell me what might have gone wrong or what i am supposed to do now? Please, I have a lot of important documents/stuff on computer and something's definetly wrong.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Regards.

it could be a power issue and it does seem like one. hmmm.....what brand and how much power are you running on your computer?

unless it is a dell computer, you can go to your local computer shop and purchase a spare power supply at the moment to test on your computer. purchase a good brand such as antec and get at least a 400watts power supply.

assuming you purchase a spare power supply, test it on your computer and see if the problem goes away. i it does then your main power supply is faulty. the reason why i say unless its a dell is because if you got a dell computer, dell makes their computers propriertory so you cant use another brand of power supply. you will have to get one through them.

Thanks a lot people for all your advice.
I tried a new PSU, and voila, computer is back on!
So IT WAS the PSU, and everything else seems fine. finally, phew!! Oh and the PSU i bought (a 400W), hasnt got enough connectors so i have to buy extenders, so i can connect powersupply to my soundcard and floppy.

Thanks again for everything.
Cheers!

Sometimes just the act of unplugging the power supply is enough to bring the board back. Mine did that once a while ago. But since you already installed a new PSU and hopefully a better one than what you had just leave it as it is.

Maybe your old PSU went bad, no point in risking the main board to test it.
