nothing wrong with memory, if that is what you need. There are several reasons why one would want more memory, however, if your machine has 'bottlenecks' elsewhere, it may not be the best use of your money. Make sure you get the correct type of memory, never heard of too much being a problem to answer your question though.

Hi Chris,

If you are using general office applications, general multimedia, internet browsing, and e-mail, then 1 GB will be sufficient, but if you do heavy multimedia editing, gaming, and a lot of multitasking, then 2 GB will help. More than 2 GB in 32 bit Windows is not going to help.

Use the Check My Computer tool and it should tell you what memory your machine needs. You can then check the cost online for new RAM. Note, sometimes you need to remove smaller RAM modules to fully upgrade a machine!

XP needs a minimum of 512 MB and a lot of folks can live with this amount, 1 GB would cover all but the most advanced users.
