Hello!

I've been out of touch with hardware for a couple of years now. I'm currently running an AMD FX 6350 paired up with an XFX R9 270x. I want to upgrade, but I don't want to bottleneck a new card with my current CPU. I won't be upgrading my CPU for a bit so I'm looking for something to handle modern games effectively that will be of use to me for another ~2 years.

My question is simple. Would an R9 280x be able to handle most modern games (Warhammer Vermintide, Attila total war, and other games with similar demands) and games TO come? If not, would a 290x be bottlenecked and if so how much would I have to overclock my CPU?

The 280x would be a slight upgrade, though I'm not sure how much you'll notice it over the 270x. The CPU shouldn't cause a bottleneck, though if you want to play higher end game then its something you'd probably want to upgrade with the GPU.

I don't see a bottleneck happening I just don't know if you will see that much difference to make that change pay.

if you want to upgrade go with the R9 380, it's 30 to 40% faster

and maybe go with the R9 390 if you have the budget for it
don't stick with the R9 2x series, go with the newer one
