This is my Pc Build:

Graphics: Radeon Hd 4890 xfx factory overclocked 1GB
Processor: Intel core 2 quad q6600 2.4ghz
Ram: 4gb Corsair 800mhz
Harddrive: 700gb
Power Supply: Corsair HX620W Modular Power Supply

Im thinking of upgrading because i dont have the desired preformance, i am a hardcore gamer and in games such as crysis and battlefield bad company 2 i am not getting the desired preformance at 1680 x 1050... for example in crysis i run at around 30fps on all high with no AA which is bad... and on BFBC2 i constantly get poor preformance causing me to go into medium with only 2x AA or 4x AA... If anyone has an upgrade solution wether it be processor or RAM or Hardrive please say... or if you know another way around please enlighten me

I would look at gfx first, as a quad should handle nicely. Might need to check the PSU depending on card though.
A 4890 should do well for the latest greatest out there right now, Where your card shines is at high resolution

If direct x11 is what you are looking for you might want to consider a 5850 something like this with your power supply

thanks for the reply but gfx can't be the problem i only just upgraded it recently and i dont lag when stood still its when i am moving on the games and the game is loading scenary as i get closer mostly...
Do you have 2 screens? If so, open up task manager on the second screen, performance tab, pull up resource monitor at bottom. Expand the CPU and memory sections. On CPU, sort by the final column: Total average percentage draw of CPU power. On Memory, sort by commit values. So you should be seeing how much the biggest program is hogging.

Now go play a game, and see how much RAM and CPU power it draws.

no i dont have 2 screens just the one

do your games support pause and alt+tab? Run resource monitor in background and alt-tab out to see what the numbers are before they drop off. CPU shouldnt be more than 40-60% and memory shouldnt be much higher unless you have a memory leak.

thanks for the quick reply
I have done what you said and in game the CPU is very high almost 70 - 90 % and memory is over 2gb when playing games i have 4gb in total!
not enough CPU power to run that card .........cpu is your bottle neck

what are the rest of the specs of your system (motherboard make and model number / ram model number)

you might be able to overclock that Q6600 and wake it up OR depedning on the mobo you have.........cpu upgrade

use this to learn more about your system

I need to get my head back in the loop. I didn't read the GPU right, thats why I looked at it first. Linderman's right, your CPU is bottlenecking badly.

I would look into OC'ing it, if you can. I have my Q8200 (2.33 GHz stock) OC'd to 2.8 GHz, but I don't remember if the 6600 is a 65 or 45nm chip. IIRC it should still be 2.8 stable.
seriously guys this is great news i was hoping my CPU was the problem and it was nothing i couldnt easily sort... I have tried before to overclock the q6600 but without much luck or good preformance when i have done it. The motherboard is an ASUS P5KC and I believe the Ram is Corsair 400 mhz each 2gb each ... any more information you need please say and i will be willing to give it! :D motherboard supports 45nm CPU it says on box, supports FSB 1333 DDR 3 and 2 sual-channels. eSATA I don't have the box for the RAM though if youk now anyway i could identify it please say :D
Use the CPUid program that Linderman linked to. IIRC it lists the ram specs.

If your board supports 45nm CPU and FSB1333, you're golden. Pick a CPU and throw it in there, I say. Word of advice, I cheaped out on my Q8200 because it has a small(er) cache than most quad core CPU's, but that doesn't bottle me too terribly.
perhaps i could get a good dual core? i heard they are better for gaming... like the e8400... its about £140

The E8400 is an excellent CPU and great for a gamer.
yup E8400 or E8500 and you have a great overclocking board; you could easily push that E8400 or E8500 to 3.8ghz
ok thanks guys you have been a great help :) you think it will preform better than the q6600? because i would hate to install it to find no improvment or even degrading. Also on another note my lag (except on crysis) seems to occur parliminarly when im moving towards things... if i stand still there seems to be hardly any lag what so ever... This is caused by the processor right? write back asap :)
If you guys don't mind replying because i am really confused now.
sorry for the slow reply; that work thing is really tearing me a new "one" lately

the Intel E8500 is way better CPU for gaming -vs- the Q6600 especially when gaming with such a venerable overclocking board
