I have a fairly old Dell inspiron 530 desktop and would like to get a faster processor than what it has,2.53 gigahertz Intel Core2 Duo
64 kilobyte primary memory cache
3072 kilobyte secondary memory cache
64-bit ready
Multi-core (2 total)
Not hyper-threaded, is it possible if so what can I get and where can I get it. TIA

This is why I hate OEM PC's especially Dell's....they make it so hard for hardware upgrades.

With most OEM PC's, especially Dell, upgrading the CPU is very limited and if there is a viable CPU upgrade the performance gain if any isn't worth the time/effort/money for doing the upgrade.

Your best option would be to buy newer OEM PC or I strongly recommend building one.

If I remember right that C2D cpu topped out at 3.0 Ghz so even if you could make such a move, you would see almost no negligible difference. How much memory do you have in there? Either that or moving to an Ssd drive would give you a lot more responsive pc, but most here would advise you to upgrade your system at this point and not spend the money on this old one.
