Hi,
I have a Dell Aspire 5332 laptop and i haven't used it since November 2012 (where it was working fine). It had Windows updates when i switched it off. I switched it on today and i have no internet connection. When hovering over the icon it says unidentified network - no internet access.

My service provider is British Telecom and i am on the Fibre Optic package. I am using the BT Home Hub 2.0.Fibre Type B and also a Echolife HG 612 model FTCC VDSL NTE Router.

I have Norton installed on the machine but there is only 1 day left on the subscription.

I have tried a wired connection from the router but still have the same message.

2 other computers are wired to the router and all of our Ipads and Macbook connect wirelessly with no problems.

I have run ipconfig/all

Can you connect when wired to the router or in Safe Mode with Networking - the latter will isolate Norton and eliminate that as a cause.

Do you have any yellow alerts against the Network Adapters in Device Manager ?

You can download the relevant Network drivers from Acer Europe - Service & Support, Drivers & Utilities, Downloads

Doing a Power Cycle may also help How to Power Cycle Your Broadband Devices | Tech Support Forum and then if needed, remove any SSIDs from Network and Sharing Center/Manage wireless networks and see if the computer will pick up.

If it's still a no go, then wire up and as an adminstrator type and Enter each of these cmds from the cmd prompt :-

netsh winsock reset catalog
netsh int ipv4 reset reset.log
netsh int ipv6 reset reset.log
ipconfig /flushdns
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
ipconfig /registerdns

Then reboot the computer.

Edit...Can you scroll down Wifi Inspector and post another shot with the other two channel users and what is that red cross showing against to the left of the battery icon in the system tray ?

Hi Tomken15,
I coonected the laptop to router via wire and started in safe mode with networking - still the same error sshowing- unidentified network.

In Device Manager no yellow alerts against Network Adaptors.

Did power cycle still same problem

Did not know how to remove ssids from network and sharing centre.

With computer attached to mains and wired to router ran

netsh winsock reset catalog - successfullyreset winsock catalog

netsh int ipv4 reset reset.log - resetting interface ok

netsh int ipv6 reset reset.log - there's no user specified settings to be reset.

ipconfig /flushdns - Successfully flushed the DNS resolver Cache

ipconfig/release - ok

ipconfig /renew - No operatio can be performed on wireless network connection while it has media disconnected

ipconfig /registerdns - would not allow me to do it straight away. Had to come out and go beck into cmd

Rebooted the computer - exactly the same error - unidentified network.

I have not been able to update the Norton definitions as i cannot connect to the internet on the laptop.

The red arrow is stating on battery icon 100% fully charged but consider replacing your battery

I have attached a new Xirrus file, a copy of cmd page and a screen shot of my network and sharing adapter sharing page

Hope this helps. Thanks for your help so far

you should change your routers wifi channel from 6 to 1. Right now you are on the same channel others are and this causes contention.

This aside you should only be connected wired to the router for troubleshooting this issue.
You have a tested known good network cable to use?

You would first connect wired to the echolife router and reboot. If no ip address connect wired to the bt hub and see if you get one.

Connected by wire to BT Home Hub - Same error - Unidentified network.

Hi,
I have used the Norton Removal Tool and deleted Norton from the laptop as it only had a day to go with the subscription. The error is still there.

One thing i have noticed in network and sharing is the unidentified network is classed as Public where it used to be Home

Regards

All other devices connected to the same router have no internet connection or other issues also?

Please download the latest drivers for your ethernet adapter card and wireless adapter card from acer website for your model of Laptop do this from another computer if neccessary and transfer to probmatic Laptop using a USB stick, uninstall the old drivers for each card one at a time and then install the latest drivers one at a time also and check for internet connectivity using a wired connection first.

Please let us know the results thanks.

All other devices connected to the router work perfectly.

Looked on Acer website and it does not include my model Acer aspire 5332. Looks like all the drivers are for Windows Vista and my laptop runs Windows 7 home premium 64 bit.

Your acer aspire has downloads for windows 7 i have just checked so i do not know where you looked but if you go to driver downloads and choose notebooks, ultrabooks and choose aspire and scroll down to aspire 5332 you will see it supports windows 7. I suggest you check again, link below:

Download

Choose whether your Windows 7 is 32-bit(x86) or 64-bit(x64).

Edit: to remove wireless network profiles go to:

start>control panel>network and sharing centre>manage wireless networks and highlight each profile in turn and right click and choose remove profile.
