I had opened an email yesterday from a friend, turned outr to be a virus. It crashed my computer. Now, when I turned computer on, it was trying to load from cd/dvd and was unable to...since there wasn't one there. Ok, so I tried to re-install. When I got pass the custom install screen to the disk partition, well there was one partition there that reads, disk 0 unallocated space. I than tried to create a new one. It wont let. Im not sure what to do next....any help is very much appreciated thank you in advance!

Hi sherrieef,

Does it look like the image attached to this post? If so, that means that it's ready for windows to be installed on it, so just click 'Next' or format it if you want.. That's a screen shot from my last re-install about 2 months ago. I see the window every time during the process as I normally only want to have 1 partition, so I will hit the 'Advanced' button which you may have used and delete any other partitions there as I have everything backed up anyway and if I ever want to create a new partition then I can do that after Windows is reinstalled.

I would have tried kenny111111's post first though. Did you back everything up first?

Hi thank for the reply. Kenny/Gift - I am running a windows 7. I am tryign to reinstall from the microsoft CD. I can get to the screen that allows me to custom install. But when I get to the part on which drive to install, there is none there except the one that says, disk 0 unallocated space, and says no mb available. I click on that, it gives me no options except to make a new one. After clicking to make a new one it says to enter a size. Ok, so I tried that but then says something like must be at least 0 mb. ?? I dont get that. I can't reformat this drive, extend or any other options. My computer is only about 3 years old. I don't think it crapped out on me...but someone made that suggestion. What else can I do? Is there a way around the cmd option that i can do? I can get to the bios screen when I press F9/F12. also, what does it look like when the hard drive is dead?

Thank you for your help. im a student and I have all my homework and programs on there. I really need it.... im stressed.

It already sounds like your homework and programs are gone. There are some paid programs that may be able to recover that data, but it's not cheap. If you are going to do that, don't do anything else to that drive now. Anything you do will make it harder to recover what you want.

If you aren't, then you need to setup a new partition with that unallocated space on disk 0 and then format it. TheGift73 gave you the instructions for where to do that.
