Recently during start-up I was given a message that I could not log into my profile and that I should contact an administrator. Now I'm entered into a profile in which some of my former programs and files exist but not all, and the wallpaper has been set to default. The desktop icons are gone, with the exception of Firefox. Now every time I restart settings are reset, such as mouse speed. Sometimes when I have just logged on I am given the message 'Windows has recovered from a serious error' and have to select 'Don't send error report' numerous times. I tried to log off and switch users but this is the only profile, with the same name and icon as my original.

The problem seemed to have come out of nowhere. I'd appreciate any help. Thanks.

I followed the instructions given but couldn't complete the final task:

Click Browse button and then browse For Folder dialog box to locate the Documents and Settings folder and select the new account.
I tried to copy the files to the new profile but was given this message:

'Profile Error: Failed to set Security on the Destination Profile. Error - The configuration registry database is corrupt'.
