As I type the flashing bar showing where I am typing will disppear and show up somewhere else in what I am typing and continues typing from that point and messes everything up causing me to have to go back and continuosly fixing what I typed. Sometimes it jumps to the address line or other places on my screen. Can this be corrected?

Sounds like you are brushing the touchpad with your thumb or wrist while typing. Happens to all of us. Don't rest your wrists on the body of the pc and make a mental note to not let them or your thumbs 'droop'.
