cannot repair registry problems

when running the Tune-Up cleanup, it appears to find about 100 registry problems (invalid entries in the windows history list. u know, mostly references to missing old files.) the problem is, i clean them all, but when i run the program again, they re-appear! i checked everything, deleted recent files, but nothing. i deactivated system restore, cleaned them once more, and nothing again! i even ran another registry cleaner..but the problem seems to insist. on safe mode the entries do not appear so i cant do anything.
help would be appreciated :sigh:

I wouldn't advise you to run registry cleaners - as most of them don't really know what is good from bad. So it could potentially leave your computer useless if it deletes something it shouldn't.

In my honest opinion, I wouldn't worry about it. Just use Windows clean up, run a check disk, and defrag your hard drive every month or so. You should be good then.

Hope this helps..

whats worrying me is that the SAME problems appear even though i delete them, something weird that has never happened before for normal files like jpgs or docs.
i do all the other things you mentioned, but still.. i'd like to know why the registry cannot be cleaned anymore. thanks for posting anyway..!

Kaede, what Coolfreak said is the absolute truth.

You are aware that 'History' isn't "IN" the registry, only a pointer to the cache where it is?

Also, that many times such cleaners miss necessary connections between registry and operating system needs which can screw your system up horribly.

The built-in 'cleaner' in IE6 or IE7 or IE8 will clean History and temp files quite well.

For a little added 'cleaning', a known resource like Spybot Search and Destroy is useful to look at your system and report what it finds so you can make an intelligent decision about what to remove or leave alone. Malwarebytes is another good cleaning tool that is well respected. BUT, always review what they find and if in doubt, DO NOTHING until you check around.

Before using any registry cleaner it is advisable to create a new or second user.
If you only have a single user and screw the registry, you cant login, but sometimes the dame is only done per user, so creating a second user gives access to your computer and prevents a reformat.

Never heard of Tune-U Cleanup, if is says you have 100 registry problems each time, sounds like its one of these scam malware programs and will ask you to buy it, then remove the warning.

I agree with everyone else here, reg cleaner often dont do much good. Microsoft used to produce regclean for windows 98, the only one ive seen for XP which was anygood was regvac http://www.regvac.com/ this did appear to work well.
CCleaner also has a tools section and has a registry fix tool. I have had no problems with any of these tools, but its advisable to backup your own files and work before starting off on any such idealistic registry crusade.
