So I currently have 2 computers that I use with a KVM switch which works great. Allows me the ability to easily toggle back and forth between my work and home computer.

I recently decided that I want to start using 2 monitors- I initially thought it would be as simple as buying a cord that connects 2 VGA inputs into 1 VGA output. Unfortunately all that does is duplicate the display onto onto both monitors.

In doing some research it looks like I possibly need a VGA USB adapter. I'm guessing I would need 2 and plug each monitor into the adapter and then that would allow be to use each monitor independently.

My issue is that my monitors don't plug into the computer (where there are plenty of USB ports), they plug into my KVM switch which only allows for a VGA input for the monitor.

Help!

Is there a different type of KVM switch I would need that uses USB instead of VGA for the monitor?

I'm far from a tech expert as you can....thanks in advance for any input!

Thanks for the feedback- much appreciated.

A little bummed that they are my best options....the KVM switch I use now has a cord that runs off the switch that sits on my desktop which makes switching back and forth easy. Not to mention the reviews on these are not that great.

Other than a KVM switch with dual ports for VGA, are there any other options?

Thanks again

A dual monitor KVM is your only real option. And there are many more than what was listed above. There are numerous models, with numerous video port types.

Most of us either provide a sample or hardware that we have used, just to provide and example of what you need.

Thank you again for the feedback. I will do some additional research to see what else is out there for KVM switches.

Thank you!

Just a thought.....what if I wanted only one computer to run both monitors? And let the other computer just use one monitor? Could I keep the existing KVM switch in place and do something to allow one of the computers to use both monitors?

Thanks!

If the computer that you want dual-monitors connected to already has a video card with two or more outputs, your could use your existing KVM to share one of your monitors with the other computer. In other words, one monitor would always be connected directly to the first computer and the other would be connected through the KVM so you could share it with the second computer. Make sense?

Thanks again for all the feedback, but at this point I think I'm going to forego the 2 monitor option- as much as I would love to make it work the dual monitors KVM switches that are out there just don't have very good reviews- and having just one computer using 2 monitors while the other uses just 1 is clunky. Oh well- I tried. Thanks again.
