Trying to recover data...

6 year old desktop tower black screened. Removed hard drive, a Western Digital model WD2500JS-60MHB1, WD Caviar SE serial ATA.

Purchased a new tower, intel i3, windows 7 and a BYTECC enclosure SATA 3.5" super speed USB 3.0 ext hard drive.

When I plug the USB in and power it up, it shows up in devices as AS2105
but does not show up under hard disk drives. It also makes zero noise...
except once. Once it strarted humming, clicked about 3 or 4 times, but still didn't show up.

How dead is it? Is the data on this drive recoverable by me or will I be shelling out hundreds $$$$. Just curious!

Thanks!

Can you feel the drive spin up ? put your hand on it or your ear up to it when you power it on. Try to connect it direct to the motherboard with a standard sata cable and power connector dont use any usb external case to attempt data recovery doesn't work well with drives having problems works ok only with healthy working drives
