trying to install xp on new home built

i have an asus p5bw-la basswood board. using sata hard drive and cd. after xp loads it goes to a blue screen with a stop: 0x0000007e (0xc0000005,0xf74 8eobf,0xf78daz08,0xf78d9f08) pci.sys-addres f748eobf base at f7487000, date stamp 3b7d855c. no clue can someone help do i need update bios? please help i know it is something probably really petty.

Have you made any hardware changes prior to the problem?
set sata to be seen as ide in the bios

all my hardware is new brand new sata hard drive, cd rom, video card, ram, processor, motherboard. my bios is set to ide for my hard drive. i can load my files for xp but once it is done and tries to install xp i get the blue screen with the stop action. ive cleared my cmos still nothing my version of bios is 3.01 i dont know if it needs upgraded flashed and if so how do i accomplish that without xp installed. I NEED HELP
what other settings do you see in the dropdown box when you click on the sata listing
