Hi there,

I am trying to play command and conquer - generals over lan.

When i plug in the network cable no lights appear on the NIC. I thought the cable might be faulty so i tried linking to the only available computer which happened to be a mac. Everything worked fine. I checked all the IP addresses and Workgroups and everything is fine.

just by chance, are you using a normal cat5 network cable?

to connect two network cards, you need to use a crossover cable.

If I am following this thread correctly, you plugged the network cable into a computer and a router??? and you get no LED's on the NIC??

However, if you plug the same cable in from the first computer in question to a differnet computers NIC, the NIC LED's light up??

If this is your situtation, you have an Ethernet cross over cable, which will not connect a PC to a router, hub or modem. You need a "straight" Ethernet cable for your purpose.
