I am about to turn off cable and stream all tv and movies from a firestick (netflix, prime etc). I have cox premier internet currently and am going to keep it to see if I'll need to upgrade to ultimate. I have already purchased a modem (motorola sb6183) but my router is fairly outdated. I want to get an affordable router that will allow full speeds if I decide to upgrade to ultimate from cox. There are just to many options out there with to many numbers for me to really know what's good.

If I can spend no more than $150 on the router I'd be happy but I'd hate to have to buy another one next year....

Something to keep in mind is, if your networked devices don't support AC, N or 5GHz wireless communication, the money you spend on a router with those features is wasted.

Im pretty sure Our current router is wireless N and everything we use works with it. All we will really use are our laptop, cell phones, and fire tv stick so I think we are safe there. I went ahead and picked up a router today that had really good reviews although it was more expensive than I really wanted. Asus AC1900. Hoping it will do the job for a good 3+ years. How can I test to see about the 5ghrz? Curious if my laptop will be able to use it.
