Hey all,

Got this old GA-8SIMLH + pent4 system with 1Gb RAM running XP Home SP3
went to swap CD burner for DVD burner, the system can't see it nor Bios
Yet windows detected the hardware change and required a re-activation???

Have tried many combinations of connection, Dvd as Master + HDD0 as slave.
DVD as Master on IDE1 + HDD0 as Master on IDE2. Both as cable select on single and twin IDEs
Nothing.

What am I doing wrong?
Try'd getting bios to detect. (auto)

Place the hard drive on IDE1 set as master.

Place the DVD on IDE2 set as master and the second drive on set as slave on the same IDE cable.

Reset BIOS to defaults and save and exit.

How was the previous drives setup?

HDD0 was Master on IDE1
CD was master on IDE2

I'll get to it and let you know.

The simplest way is to use CS (Cable Select). The OS will make the device on the far end of the IDE cable the Primary (Master) and any device on the middle connection Secondary (Slave).
