Truck won't start HELP!

I have a 1999 Dodge Dakota Sport. For the past couple of months (since it came out of the shop after having a steering column put in) it has been acting up. When I start it sometimes I have to hold it revved to about half a grand until it kicks up to a grand on its own. I have to slowly let off the gas to check if it will run on it's own. Sometimes it starts up without any issues. This morning I got up to start it and it will not start. It sounds like it wants to, like it's kicking over, but it just won't. When it was at the shop the mechanic had a similar if not the exact same problem and replaced the fuse. What fuse? And if that's not the issue what could it be? It seems as if it might not be getting gas to the carburetor. What would cause that? Please help. This is my ONLY vehicle and I am a single mom of 4 kids so I need answers. Thanks

It could be anything, this is the problem. Need more info if you could for us, like the motor size, mileage, anything else that you feel may help us.
How bout tunes ups, when was the last one and what did you have done? Are there any dashboard trouble lights?
A simple fix sometime is the gas cap on, and tight?
Might want to take it back to the shop that did the work on the steering column and ask them to check and see if they knocked off a main vacuum line under the dash ... they could of forgot to hook something back up
