trouble with shutdown

I've been having this problem for a while now. This only happens once in a wile. When I go to shutdown my computer, it doesn't shut off.
When it does all the saving my settings, and what not, it just sitts there, and doesn't shut off the computer. I figured it was once of my running software, such as my zonealarm pro, but when I shut it manuely, it still wasn't shutting off properly. It would go through the process, but when its suppose to shut off, it just sitts there. I checked all my processes, they were ok. I asked a friend of mine, and he said that it could be a windows xp shut down problem.

Do u zone alarm installed? Please remove it n try?
Do you have SP2 (service pack 2) installed on your PC?

This is a known bug in Windows XP, for which Microsoft has a supported fix. :)

Yes I have XP sp2. And I did remove zonealaram, and it still was having trouble shutting off.
Hi

Don't remove Zonealarm, its a good firewall and won't be causing this unless there's a conflict. You need a good firewall running for safety and security.

Can you try running this please and see if it works:

User Profile Hive Cleanup Service

The next time you cannot terminate XP from Start, press Ctrl+Alt+Del>Shutdown and choose the appropriate option and it will shutdown.

I reinstalled zonealarm, and its still doing it, so obviously it can't be the problem. I'll try the control alt del, and see what happens. Thanks
I tryed control alt Del, and it still didn't shut off. I had to do it the hard way by using the power button, and I hate doing that!
Hi alifa

Do you have any System restores saved that you can try?

Thats should be the first option, however I'll inform you that it will uninstall any changes to the registry made since the time the restore backup was made i.e. settings, added software since etc.

Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore

If that doesn't help, then have a read here if it helps: http://aumha.org/win5/a/shtdwnxp.htm
I tryed system restore, and nothing happens. I also visited dat site, and I'm running sp2, and acording to Microsoft, they resolve this problem in sp2, so I'm kind of confused here.
