Hello... I just purchased an old iMac because after upgrading my Mac mini to Leopard I could no longer run my classic applications. The iMac currently has OS 10.2.4 and nothing else.
(It originally came with OS 8.1)

When trying to install OS 9 from a disc that says:
"eMac
Mac OS 9 Install
Mac OS version 9.2.2" the installation disc cannot find/display a destination to select - no hard drive. The destination menu is grayed out. Without this the install process won't proceed.

(The guy who sold me the computer gave me the disc, but I don't know if it actually came with this machine originally.)
(In "read me" it does say "OS 9.2 update requires OS 9.1", but the install disc does not say "update." ?

I also tried the OS 9 install disc that came with my Mac mini, but it couldn't read the disc - no icon on the desktop.

Any help would be much appreciated, thanks. jm8

Sounds like the Hard drive in the iMac do not have the OS 9 disk drivers installed. The only way to install them is to reformat the hard drive, which means loosing the OS 10.2.4 install.
