Trojan Horse Downloader.Dyfica.2.BA HELP PLEASE!

1361 Views 5 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  Ried
My computer started to get really slow, especially opening. I downloaded a number of antispyware programs and followed instructions but found I couldn't disable system restore. I finally managed to in safe mode by entering a 1 instead of 0 at the disable line, and a 4 instead of a 0 at some other line I was instructed to (it made sense when I read it).

AVG detected and deleted nem 220.dll and described it as Trojan Horse Downloader.Dyfica.2.BA. After deleting it I still wasn't able to disable system restore, but then I was able to as mentioned above, and I ran AVG again and it didn't detect it. Windows is slow, Internet Explorer is slow, everything's slow to open and some keys on my keyboard don't work properly (such as toggling between languages using control-shift).

I just ran Hijack This and here is the log. I know it's extensive but I'm a novice and just trying to climb my way out of this. The software that came with my HP pavilion lap top is the complete 6 disk set with everything on it, so I can't just selectively put in my Windows XP Home edition disk and reload it without doing everything. Can anybody help me? Much appreciated,

Don

Where do I begin with this?

Hi and Welcome to TSF

Before attacking an adware/spyware problem with hijackthis make sure you have already run the following tools. Download and update the databases on each program before running.

Also make sure you are using the the latest version (1.99.1) of HijackThis and it's installed in it's own folder on the root drive. (C:\HJT)

*Note* Though your not complaining of an NT shutdown error (concerning msblast.exe) I would still run the removal tool for it just in case. MOre info can be found here...http://www.pchell.com/virus/msblast.shtml

Download and install CleanUp! but do not run it yet.

*NOTE* Cleanup deletes EVERYTHING out of temp/temporary folders and does not make backups.

Download, install, and update Ewido Security Suite
  • Install ewido security suite
  • Launch ewido, there should be a big E icon on your desktop, double-click it.
  • The program will prompt you to update click the OK button
  • The program will now go to the main screen
You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files.
  • On the left hand side of the main screen click update
  • Click on Start
The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
After the updates are installed, exit Ewido

Go to My Computer->Tools->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that Show hidden files and folders is enabled. Also make sure that the System Files and Folders are showing/visible.
Please make sure system restore is enabled by right clicking on My Computer and go to Properties->System Restore and check the box for Turn OFF System Restore and make sure it’s NOT checked. We want system restore ON and monitoring your current hard drive. Once your clean we will turn this off and then back on to remove the infection from the restore folder and create a clean restore point.

Reboot into Safe Mode (hit F8 key until menu shows up). Make sure to close any open browsers. Open add/remove programs and remove the following if listed.

WeatherBug
MyWay\myBar
Viewpoint

Check and fix the following in HijackThis if they still exist (make sure you do not miss an entry)

  • Cleanup! All Users
Click OK

Once back to normal windows....

Please run an online scan at http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/com/activescan_principal.htm

So I did mostly everything you said. I can't go in and out of system retore either by checking the box or by going in through msconfig--I get an error, so I did everything in safe mode with system restore turned off.

Those two files you were asking about, Joybee and the other one, aren't malware I don't think. One is for my mp3player.

Couldn't find svchost.exe in the system32\drivers folder. I did find it in just the system 32 folder but I left it there cause it wasn't your instruction. Also couldn't find msblast.exe on a search with hidden files and extensions selected for view.

Pandasoftware is finding 7 spyware items on current scan. Here is the latest Hijackthis log (yes it's the latest version)

Are we showing progress here? What should I do now?

Thanks a million,

Don

To make matters worse, I'm now getting a SMART drive failure prediction on my hard drive when I start up.

And I just got a blue screen error that says the following:

Kernel_data_inpage_error
Stop 0X0000007A (0XC03E1690, 0XC000000E, 0XF85A4642, 0XIFBAF860)
ftdisk.sys - addressF85A462 base at F859A000 datestamp 3b7d8419

I feel like I'm losing the battle here. Should I backup, buy a new drive, and reinstall everything or is this a salvageable situation?
Well I just reinstalled everything. Took a lot less time than dealing with the messed up system I was dealing with. Thanks for your help--the drive seems fine and the computer is operating as good as new.

Over the course of my last infection, I downloaded probably 20 programs that scanned for this or that virus or malware. After downloading,

Panda
ad aware
spy bot
ccleaner
ewido
hjt

and so on and so on, what would you recommend as being an adequate protection in addition to either AVG or Norton to guard against malware in the future. I d rather just have a couple of good programs rather than accumulating endless quantities of programs that get used for one problem, then by the time you have another problem there are 20 new names of programs that are the current ones.

Since I m starting from scratch, what is the best bet... Cclean is a good little basic tool to have I realize, but there seem to be other redundancies.

Hello dryan,

In light of your recent issue, please take a look at these well written articles:

HOW DID I GET INFECTED IN THE FIRST PLACE? http://forums.net-integration.net/index.php?showtopic=3051
THE ANTI-SPYWARE TUTORIAL http://www.greyknight17.com/spyware.htm#prevent
MAKING INTERNET EXPLORER SAFER http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/Making_Internet_Explorer_Safer-tut102.html

Be very wary with any security software that is advertised in popups or in other ways. They are not only usually of no use, but often have malware in them.

More information and downloads are available at the following links:

Spyware Blaster to help prevent spyware from installing in the first place.
Spyware Guard to catch and block spyware before it can execute.
IESpy-Ad to block access to malicious websites so you cannot be redirected to them from an infected site or email.

Firefox www.mozilla.org/products/firefox - Use this alternate browser. While Internet Explorer is not a bad browser, almost every exploit crafted is targeted to take advantage of an IE weakness.

Sun's Java http://java.com/en/index.jsp - It's much more secure than Microsoft's Java Virtual Machine.
