Hello, I really need help to know what's the real problem in my computer. One morning, i tried to boot the computer but all I got was a black screen and the gpu fan spining at 100%. Everything else was functionnal. For some reason, it switched automatically from the pci-e to the integrated video card even if i had switched to pci-e in the BIOS.

First card: EVGA 8800 gts ssc 640mb (i had this for 1 year and half now)

I looked at many forums and finally thought it was the video card. First card was still on waranty so I returned it (thinking it was the problem) and I exchanged it for an xfx 8800gts alpha dog 512mb. My motherboard supports pci-e 1.0. the xfx 8800gts is compatible with pci-e 1.0 and 2.0. It was the last good card compatible with pci-e1.0. Tried it on computer and surprise same problem.

So, was the first card really broken and the second just had compatibility problems (some people reported same issue with pci-e2.0 to pci-e1.0 compatibility cards)?

or

Something else...

1. checked the psu (550 watts with 3x 18A for 12 volt)
2. checked the 4 pin 12V motherboard connector
3.checked if the card was well clipped
4.checked my bios settings
5.tested if everything else was functionnal (it was)
CONFIG:
motherboard: A8M2N-LA (NodusM3)
power suply: antec truepower 550 watts trio 12V 18A
ram:2x1gb ddr2 4200 533mhz
2x512mb ddr2 4200 533mhz
processor: amd 4600x2 2.4 ghz
first card i tried: EVGA 8800 gts ssc 640mb
second card: xfx 8800 gts 512mb alpha dog

Help I don't know what the problem is and I don't want to buy hardware for or to exchange any gpu for nothing. Thanks for helping me.

I can't modify the voltage in my BIOS. Is there another of knowing the voltage? The pc is an hp but i add some parts. How can I know if the pci-e slot is broken or if theres a malfunctionning in motherboard? My motherboard temperature is 41c and my cpu 45c.

I made a mistake my ram is 4300-533mhz.

i just read the power suplly and selection and im wondering if my psu had a too high stress. I read on the psu that it has an effiancy of 85% at 50c. Is it possible that my pci-e connector was damaged because it had a too high stress? Is there a web site or a program where i can calculate the power my computer uses?

You won't be able to modify the voltages, but does it report what the voltages are?
If not D/L SpeepFan and lets see what it reports for voltages, your temps look good.

Here is a Power calculator make sure you hit all the categories use 70% for load and when finished add 30% to the total for the correct size> http://extreme.outervision.com/psucalculatorlite.jsp

Antec used to make a good unit they switched suppliers of internals 2 years ago and the results have not been good, I keep hearing conflicting reports about the current units so far I've been avoiding them.

My psu wattage looks good but i could have buy a 600 watts to be more stable. It recommended me a 575 watts for 100% cpu load 100% load in general and a 30% capacitor aging. If my system runs for a long time and at max load (when im playing so many many hours per week) i will be missing a 25 watts.

vcpu:1.12v
vcc:3.28-3.30v
+5v:4.95-4.97v
+12v: 12.05-12.17v
+3.3:3.32-3.35v

Is it important if theres a 0.05v-0.12v higher than normal on the 12V?

you have plugged in the aux power plug into the m/b

you would expect that psu to boot it up

try a cmos reset

cmos reset
turn the computer off
remove the power lead from the back
take the side off
remove the cmos battery
move the cmos jumper from pins 1 and 2 to pin 2 and 3 and the back to pins 1 and 2
reinsert the battery
put the side on
replug in the power lead
boot the computer

there can be 2 solder points you touch with a screwdriver
2 pins you touch with a screwdriver or use a jumper
a cmos clear switch or button
there will be a diagram and instructions in your manual

try reseating the card

no i don't but i opened the second card box one day and half ago. It is new. The first card was in my pc for 1year and half. I twould be annoying to have two broken card including one new.

Finally maybe it's my motherboard.

Can the pci-e slot been damaged by the first card?

I mean why is my video card and especially my pci-e slot were functioning one day and the next morning no. can it be a short circuit during boot up or something went wrong when i shut down my computer.

Is my motherboard cheap for putting such video cards?

I really don't know what to do now.

please help

yes i hear the error sound. I can actually start my pc while having the video card or by not having it. the only difference is the fan speed and the fact that my video card isnt detected.

When i connect only my video card to my screen, i don't have any image but windows is still loading. Even if i put pci-e into the bios, it switch automatically to integrated when i start the computer. Right now im using this computer with the integrated graphic card. I can start my pc normally but the only difference is that the gpu fan speed is at max. Yes I can acess safe mode but not with only the gpu plugged in. I can't have any image from my gpu. Only from the integrated one. My gpu isn't detected i think. It does the same thing as if i put the video adapter on pci and it switch to integrated.

boot from the onboard
in the device manager disable the onboard
if the card is listed uninstall it
turn the computer off
install the card
change the video cable from the onboard to the card
reboot into the bios
check to see if you can disable the onboard in there and set it to detect pcie first
save and exit the bios tapping f8 and choose low resolution mode mode
when windows finishes booting
disable a/virus
install your drivers for the card
reboot the computer

I uninstalled my unboard and then followed all the steps but nothing changed. I can access the bios but i can't get any images with only the video card connected.

list of three different situations possible with my computer:

situation: I have my video card installed (dvi cable from video card to screen) and the onboard desinstalled (no cable) BIOS set to pci-e.
1. power button
2. fan speed at max
3. no image
4. windows still loading and still fan speed at max
5.close computer

situation 2: video card installed (dvi cable connected) and onboard desinstalled with a vga cable connected to the screen. BIOS set to pci-e

1. power button
2.fan speed at max
3.image coming from onboard ?(switched automatically from onboard to pci-e)?
4.windows loads i see everything on screen and still fan speed at max
5. i can use my computer (exept for games). Mysteriously, I can't put my computer on sleep mode???

situation 3:no video card, only onboard desisntalled with vga cable connected
1....
2.no gpu so no fan
3.image coming from onboard
4.windows loads
5. i can use sleep mode but i can't play video games...

A question i didn't asked and should is why does the fan is spinning at 100%?
