transferring data from l.yimg.com freezes browser

I'm using Firefox 4.0 and many of the pages that I go to take forever to load and show 'not responding' whenever the status bar shows 'transferring data from l.ymig.com'. This happens in Twitter and Facebook so not necessarily just Yahoo sites. It usually takes about 7 seconds to get past the 'not responding' stage. However, it goes through this several times just to open a web page.

And when I tried to click 'submit' for this thread the first time I got redirected to the Yahoo search page (screenshot added)

I would suspect a problem with the Yahoo toolbar for this. Try uninstalling it under Tools>Addons>Extensions. I would also uninstall it under Control Panel>Add/Remove Programs (XP) or Programs and Features (Vista and Win 7).

I can't see from your screen shot (too small), but who is your default search set to in your Search box?

I had google set as my search engine. I have just removed anything yahoo related and Firefox from my system. Trying google chrome right now but it still lags a bit even though my cpu usage doesn't go over 30%.

Why did you uninstall Firefox? There was no need to. The Yahoo toolbar uninstalls fairly cleanly.

I uninstalled Firefox because I was still having problems with pages freezing up and I'm having a little better luck with Google chrome. However I did manage to get some BSODs referencing driver_irql_not_less_or_equal... So, I don't know if it's a driver issue, if some hardware is bad or if I have a virus. Thanks for your help, but I probably need to refer this to another group in the forum regarding viruses or hardware issues.

Yes, that would be a good idea. I would suggest either the forum for your OS or the BSOD forum.
