Trackmania Issues

5647 Views 7 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  DanAction
I recently installed a game I haven't played in some time, Trackmania (from 2004). The install went fine, but when I attempt to launch the game it just doesn't load at all. I believe the issue to be me running windows 7, and now the game is just too old to run on this new operating system. Is there any way to make this game playable on windows 7?

Try running it in XP compatibility mode. If it uses DirectX, install DX9.0c.

Ok, I installed all of the components for XP compatibility mode and Directx, but now when I attempt to run XP windows mode, it says I don`t have the correct edition of Windows 7 (im running home premium). Do I have to purchase an upgrade of windows 7 (like professional) or is there a way around it?
You don't need to buy anything or upgrade your Windows 7 to a different version.

'Compatibility Mode' is a method for making the game think you're running an older version of Windows. It's not the same as the Windows 7 component you installed, which is only available for Windows 7 Ultimate users.

Ok, I checked all the boxes that is on the picture on that website, and tried some other variations. It just still doesn't even seem like the game is attempting to load at all. Kind of at a loss and I hate to ask again but is there anything maybe I need to have checked/unchecked in the compatibility settings?
According to the Windows 7 Compatibility Center, Trackmania doesn't work at all in Windows 7.

Windows 7 Compatibility for TrackMania Original version 1.5

If you've installed DirectX 9.0c, installed and run the game in compatibility mode (try 98 and XP) with the 'Run as Administrator' box ticked, I don't think there's much more you can do.

You could create a new partition on your hard drive and install an older version of Windows on it. This is called dual booting, which gives you the option to boot into Windows 98/XP or Windows 7 when you turn the computer on. You could then use this 98 or XP partition for installing and playing old games. You will need your old Windows disc and plenty of free hard drive space.
get the new trackmania (tmnf) trackmania nations forever I have it and it works perfect in windows 7 ultimate

Ok that will be the plan because now this whole thing is even stranger. I uninstall Trackmania in an attempt to get it working, install directx 9.0c again, then when I try to reinstall trackmania the setup wont even load. So screw it, thank you both for the advice.
