I have a Toshiba A135-S4467 that won't reboot.

If you can boot correctly then restart, all lights and fans come on, but nothing on the screen. After holding down on the power button to turn it off, sometimes it will boot properly and sometime the blank screen happens again and again.

I can tell that when the lights and fan come on the computer isn't booting the OS in the background. When the computer does boot properly, it doesn't say that Windows didn't shut down properly.

I've tried doing a factory restore and I've tried installing Windows from scratch. Nothing cures the problem.

What do you think?

When it doesn't boot properly, does it still make sounds (Windows boot music)? Does an external monitor work (if you have one to try)? Next time the screen goes out on you, try taking a flashlight to it at a 45º angle. If you see what's normally supposed to be there, that usually indicates that the LCD backlight has gone out.

Does it ever give you a blank screen when its powered on normally and not restarted?

If it gives you a blank screen when you just power it on, that is a big problem with the A135's and Toshiba has been fixing them under warranty. But they have NOT fixed the problem, it will normally happen again. For example one customer with a A135 I think I've replaced the motherboard on it about 5 or 6 times in less than two years, all for the blank screen issue.

You could take it to a Toshiba ASP in your area and see if they can get it covered under warranty.

I will talk to Toshiba Support. I'm sure the computer is no longer under warranty. I bought it new when it first came out. I'm pretty sure it's been over a year. Doesn't hurt to call and ask, though.

What is the actual culprit? If we let the problem continue, will it get worse and finally brick the computer?

The computer itself is probably not under warranty no. But due to the bios password problem and almost all A135's comming back for blank screen issues, they are covering motherboard replacement under warranty for them.

I know this because I am a Toshiba ASP, lol, I do warranty repairs for them
