Toshiba/Mac hard drive use

I have a Toshiba hard drive and it was first connected to a Mac to pull music from an ipod and back it up. It did that successfully and I formatted it MS Dos so it could work between Macs and Windows because I didn't own a computer at the time. I continued accessing and saving music and photo files to it from a PC and now that I have purchased a Mac I find that some folders of the music library are "grayed" and can't be opened for some reason. There doesn't seem to be any correlation between music files playing in my itunes and the gray folders but I can't access the saved files now and when trying to share those files with a friend on her Mac I can't access them either.

I know that I need to reformat the drive eventually to have it work completely with Time Machine. I'll do that eventually but why all of a sudden are some music folders hidden or inaccessible?

Thanks for the help.

Have they always been "hidden"? Or is it that you just noticed it?

In any case, it simply sounds like they are hidden.

Try this: osx - greyed out folder in OS X - Super User
