Okay, I am going crazy here. I have a year old (bought brand new) Toshiba Satelite 1805-S207. It is 20 GB, 256Ram. Not sure about the processor speed. It just went out of warranty in June. Story of my life. I do not go on the internet often on this at all and I did always update and run my virus scan so I do not think that is the problem. I just usually did my graphic work on it. Well it started out hanging up and the ONLY thing you could do was hold the button down and reboot. I only do that if it is my only alternative. Eventually it would make my cursor freeze up and freeze the whole computer. I would have to hold down the button again. So I decided to reformat. Big Pain with all the graphics I have on it but I do back up all the time. We have three desktops so I have the stuff. I put in the restore disks and it woudl hang up everytime. I had to try this repeatedly over and over and finally it worked. So I started again from scratch and was going to put stuff back on and low and behold it did that exact same thing. Freezing up. Then I turned it on and it gave me a black screen and said <windows root>\system 32\hal.dll was missing. It said reinstall it but there was no going to safe mode or anything. Just this black screen. So after repeated attempts I reformatted again to see if it did something wrong the first time. This time the reformat worked although it took some time to get it to read the disk and start it cause it was only giving me the black screen. It did it just fine and I restarted again hoping all the bad stuff was behind me. Alas it was on 2 minutes and it hung up freezing again. I had to turn it off. Sometimes when I hold down the button to turn it on it just makes a little click sound and nothing happens. Sometimes it would turn on and of course still mess up within a minute or two. Now it will not turn on AT ALL. I have tried and tried. Sometimes it will be sitting there and I will hear the fan kick on. Doesn't that mean it is on. But there is absolutely nothing on the screen. Not even black. Is there anything I can do or is it shot. I am so lost without but so tried of messing with it. Thanks for reading my novel. : ) Mendy
