Hi All,
I have an old Toshiba 4280ZDVD. 6GB drive is full. Toshiba had a sale on 60GB Drive, so I bought it. Specs for the laptop can be viewed HERE: http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/...BV_EngineID=cccfaddmjgmkkhkcgfkceghdgngdgnn.0

I've been looking around for ways and means of:
1. taking the laptop apart
2. removing and installing the HDDs
3. booting and installing a fresh copy of win xp sp2.

My background is Air Traffic Control, however I've been messing around with desktops since the 70's. Laptops are a different story. I started swapping my desktops for laptops in 1997 (Acer 50 MHz CPU 2.1 GB HDD. yes, I still have it and its works flawlessly for me and is part of my wireless network) in 2000 I added this Toshiba and except for the hinge problem it too has worked flawlessly. In 2006 I added a HP pavilion. I follow the price not the manufacturer. Anything you all can do to help me save this ol' thing will be much appreciated and praised.

Hi Rusty,
Welcome to the forum.

Here is a guide for the XP install:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/316941

As far as the HD replacement. I did not find to much free info, but I did find this:
http://www.bixnet.com/toshiba2.html#Satellite Pro 4200 Series

How much memory is in this laptop? From the specs it will only hold 320MB max
I would up it to the max. XP will run on this machine, but how well is questionable (IMO).
Hope this helps.
Thanks,
Bill
Bill,

YOU DA MAN!
That's just what I need, I did several googles on repair and install on Toshiba laptops and never hit on that. Looks like I'm on my way, thanks to you.
I maxed out the ram the day I bought it. There's no such thing as to much ram, RIGHT? Thanks again

The acer notelite 370pc ext #383 I have has reached the end of its useful life, but I really hate to get rid of it. What trooper its been, it's served as a GPS, riding around the country in the saddlebag of my BMW K1200LT. I've used it at pistol matches as a ballistics computer... dropped it, kicked it, spilled coffee on the keyboard, and thousands of other abuses, and like a Timex it just keeps on ticking. If I thought the slow frontside bus would handle it, I would upgrade the CPU and HDD. That's a project for another day.

Again Thanks for your help.
