Toshiba BSOD 0x9F. (HELP!)

3112 Views 20 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  joeten
Hello everyone,
I've had my Toshiba Qosmio X505-Q830 for a little under 6 months now. Everything was working fine for the first 3 months, and then I've had BSOD upon BSOD occur. It's the same code every time; I've called Toshiba about it and they still have yet to give me a fix for it.

Here's the problem signature:

Problem signature:
Problem Event Name: BlueScreen
OS Version: 6.1.7600.2.0.0.768.3
Locale ID: 1033

Additional information about the problem:
BCCode: 9f
BCP1: 0000000000000003
BCP2: FFFFFA8006313050
BCP3: FFFFF80000B9C518
BCP4: FFFFFA8009A454F0
OS Version: 6_1_7600
Service Pack: 0_0

This is starting to become a bit of an annoyance, it constantly happens at the most inopportune time.

Any advice on how to fix this would be appreciated! :D

Alrighty,
Here's all the fun stuff. I ran apps as instructed. :)

Thank you!

Hi,

For some reason the collection application did not pick up any BSOD minidumps (it does this occasionally). Can you check C:\Windows\Minidump and upload anything you find there.

If there is nothing there and you have definitely got bluescreens then can you check the settings mentioned in this post to see if your system is set up correctly to collect dump files when it Blue Screens.

In your event logs there are 32 recorded instances of a 0x0000009f BSOD. This is good for you as these are usually software (rather than hardware) related.

Regards,
Reventon
Alright, well, I've enclosed all 32 minidump files for you to analyze. I've researched this error before, but never found a solution for it. I've reinstalled windows and that hasn't helped either. I'm still debating whether it could be a defective RAM module... blah. :)

Hi,

I ran the dumps and got this result:

Note which driver is mostly blamed? disk.sys - Now this is an OS driver and they are almost never the true cause.

So I did some digging, and came across this:

Code:
[font=lucida console]FAILURE_BUCKET_ID:  X64_0x9F_3_disk_IMAGE_[COLOR=Red][B]o2sdgx64.sys[/B][/COLOR][/font]
I believe this driver to be at fault here. Especially as while doing some research into what the driver was for I came across this thread at Toshibas's own forums where the exact same stop code and blamed driver were present... along with the driver which I consider to be the true cause.

This driver is located in the following location:
Code:
[font=lucida console]7/16/2009    7:21:16 PM  "C:\Program Files (x86)\O2Micro\o2sdgx64.sys"[/font]
I believe it is a driver for a card reader? In any case you need to disable it to see if it was the cause.

Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\O2Micro and rename the following files so that .sys is replaced with .bak

o2mdgx64.sys

and
o2sdgx64.sys

Then see if your system still has problems.

Reventon

Well, that was unexpected. What driver is the O2Micro exactly? I changed both file extensions, and I'll let you know if I experience the problem again. I'm eternally grateful.

Thank you so much! :)
Hi smart card reader or memory card reader
Well, hello again... A week's passed without any problems. However, once my roommate's cats returned, the blue screen came back. Same error, same exact minidump file. I'm wondering if the laptop's getting too hot since one of the cat's likes to wedge itself between the laptop and the wall. :S
Remove the cat from the situation and see if it still continues (I would think that cat has nothing to do with it, but stranger things have happened).
Big fat lump of fuzz has been removed from the room. We shall see if the problem occurs again. o_o.
Hi ok we will await a update on a side note I got my usual email notification re posts to this thread and all I saw was the above, It gave me a good laugh for the day thanks
Well, it's doing it again. Same blue screen and everything. I'm at the point where I want to call Toshiba and be like "TAKE IT BACK, THIS IS DEFECTIVE.". Seriously, I've called them enough times and they still won't give me a replacement or send me a box to ship it to the repair depot. Fail. Any suggestions?
Upload the latest minidumps please - just so we can confirm if it is still the same problem.
Latest minidumps. Bluh.

Heads up, I finally got an awesome tech rep to send me out a repair depot box. So, hopefully, I can get this resolved before school starts. Let me know what else you find in those minidumps though. :)
Hi,

Code:
[font=lucida console]FAILURE_BUCKET_ID:  X64_0x9F_3_disk_IMAGE_[COLOR=Red]o2sdgx64.sys[/COLOR][/font]
Pretty sure your problem is still that card reader. Half the dumps are still blaming disk.sys but the true cause is still the above driver.

You don't have cards in the card reader do you?

Reventon

Hm, that's kind of odd. I have no cards in the card reader. Occasionally I use a Seagate 500GB external to store material, but as I said. It's not plugged it atm. Also, I have a digital camera chip that I also do not have in the reader at this time. :) I changed the memory card reader to .bak, but I just updated the BIOS. Could that be the problem?
Hi

Did this happen just after you updated the bios? If not then -

Download Ubuntu live disk, burn it to CD and using the Try it option run your laptop from the disk. This gives you a virtual Operating system and if it boots to the Ubuntu desktop ok and runs the apps, then your lappy graphics, memory and auxiliaries are operating ok.

Download Ubuntu and follow the instructions to burn to CD and the Try it! option (this will not install it to your lappy or alter the OS installed already)here.

If the above works with the Live disk then it looks like you may have a corrupt OS.

Backup or clone to that 500GB external drive and reinstall your operating system.

I'm a hardware man and cant be done with all that clever fancy minidump sherlock Homes stuff. If it smells bad clean it out.

joeten & reventon  big respect
