My friend has a Toshiba Satellite A100 that only had 256K (533Mhz) when she bought it. She complained it was running slowly and her son installed another 1GB RAM (800Mhz). The 256 is in slot 1 and the 1GB is in slot 2. Now she is having problems with errors and the laptop shuts down. Could this be because the original RAM is 533Mhz and the new RAM is 800Mhz. The Toshiba site says this model uses 533Mhz.
Any ideas??

If the RAM is a higher speed than the motherboard, I believe it gets underclocked to run at the supported speed. But mixing different types RAM can cause problems. You'll get the best results by using a matched pair. Try here as well: http://www.crucial.com
