Good day everyone,

I am running Vista HP on my Fujitsu Siemens laptop and of late I have encountered issues with my external HDD. It was causing the system to run extremely slowly or was not opening up at all. I was then able to run the HDD for about a month or so and it has happened again. I tried again to format the disk but this time system is saying that it cannot be formatted even though it has clearer all the files from the HDD. Can anyone shine a light on how I get this thing to work properly again or do I need a new one - bearing in mind it is only 18 months old

Regards

If you run it full time as a regular disk, then it may well be a disk problem. External drives seem to be a lot more susceptible to heat issues. Try the manufcaturer's diagnostics from here. http://www.tacktech.com/display.cfm?ttid=287
Thanks for the prompt response however the link leads me to a site which advises that 'the manufacturer does not provide diasgnostic tools for hard disk drives, currently'. Any other suggestions?
