Toggle between input languages

I am running WinXP SP3 on HP Pavilion dv5000. I used to use Left Alt + Shift to toggle between input languages. This hot key is not working now (although it is set correctly in the regional and language options in the Control Panel). To be able to switch languages, now I have to open MS Word & use the language bar on the system tray.

I recently installed the SP3 and Internet Explorer 8.

Any suggestions will be appreciated
