I have recently installed Thunderbird (V17.0.4) and I must have set something wrong or there is an issue I have not been able to find. I had a system redo due to a virus and have reinstalled it.

It wants to download every email from Gmail, sent, all, inbox everything. Things happen in real time and I do not want that. If I delete a message online in Gmail it deletes by it's self in thunderbird in a few sec. I have do not download message set and it still does this slowing it down to the point it's unusable at points.

Sorry if it's hard to know what I am saying, I just know how it was and how it is and it's not the same and I like how it was much better.

attached are some screen shots of my setup.

Hello :)

I am not an expert with email setup, hopefully someone else will be able to confirm, but can I suggest trying to setup your email account using POP3 and see if that is what you want?

I would suggest selecting keep messages for this account on this computer That way the imap headers won't have to be completely refreshed every 2 minuts. Then as long as you have when I delete the message move to folder 'trash', it'll still be deleted when you want it to. Also, maybe have it check every 5 or 10 minutes instead of 2.
