It's me again!

I have noticed for some time now that the amount of programs running in the background (when you hit CTR,ALT+DEL) is ridiclously high. There must be nearly 20 programs running which I think is slowing my PC down a hell of a lot.

I know you can END TASK on them on Task Manager but how can I permanantely stop unecessary programs from starting up?

Thanks everyone

Mark

deselecting unnecessary files during boot

start msconfig.exe utlility. press start ,press run, type in: msconfig.exe
systems config tool opens , click on startup button.
under this button are all the programs that are loading in machine at boot. You can uncheck all the programs you don't want to run at startup. I understand that you can still start the programs that are unchecked anytime after the machine is started. My knowledge is very limited but I got my machine to run much faster after I unchecked 75% of the files. Almost every program shoves a file in to startup. Dosen't make much sense unless it's required to be in startup in order to start program later.
Maybe someone else can explain this. good luck

msconfig.exe I could never remember that, Hence the long route.
Once you get away from W95 & W98 you tend to forget, Age doesn't help either...:D
