Good day, My pc is a
Gigabyte K8 Triton,
Amd 64 3000,
512mb RAM,
120GB SATA Seagate harddrive
512 KB/s ADSL line and 4 port Ethernet Router.
Windows XP Professional SP2

The problem I am facing is that all the files I download are corrupt. I bought this PC roughly a month ago from a leading company in South Africa (where I am situated) I installed Xp myself.

Every file I download is corrupt, some friends advised me that the processor could be overheating or there could be a hard disk controller problem. I am not sure where the problem comes from.

Say I download the winamp.exe file from the winamp website, I cannot install it, because the installer is corrupt, I am faced with the same problem when downloading doc files or pdf, All executable files, especially and documents.
The files I receive through email are fine, except when downloading.

If you need more information regarding this problem please let me know, I have ran virus scanners and spyware removal tools, and everything checks out OK. You are my last and only resort, please help me or advise what to do!!

Welcome to TSF:

This sounds like a modem or network card problem to me. Have you tried other devices ????

which device do you use to download data / cable modem, dial-up modem network card or onboard Lan controller ?????

Since you can get files as attachments without them being corrupted, I can't imagine how it could be the connection. Do you have any issues browsing? Are you using a download manager of any kind?

I'd start by posting a HijackThis log and let us see if anything jumps out.

I got the problem sorted out

The problem lies with the onboard LAN. It corrupts every file it get's its circuits on. I phoned the company I bought the pc from and they will have it fixed. I installed another network card, and downloads come out perfect.

Thanks so much for the advice and everything,

Glad you sorted it out, because I don't see anything in the log.

BTW, I don't see any anti-virus application running, you don't really run without one, do you?
