Hi,

I purchased a game called The Whispered World through Steam earlier today and am having trouble with it. I would have asked on the game's forum, but it looks quite inactive.

Basically, as soon as it loads up, the sound is extremely laggy/stuttery so much so that you can't understand anything.

If you skip the loading pages, the Menu is very laggy - cursor takes a while to respond. And the game itself and the cutscenes are just as bad - unwatchable/unplayable.

The specification requirements for the game are:

Steam:

OS: Windows 7/Vista/XP/2000
Processor: 2.0 GHz processor
Memory: 1 GB RAM
Graphics: 256 MB graphics card, DirectX 9.0 compatible
DirectX®: DirectX 9.0
Hard Drive: 3 GB free hard disc space

Wikipedia:

Intel CPU: Pentium 4 3.0GHz
AMD CPU: Sempron 3600+
Nvidia Graphics Card: Geforce 7800 GTX
ATI Graphics Card: Radeon HD 5570
RAM Memory: 1GB

And I have:

Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit (6.1, Build 7600) (7600.win7_gdr.100226-1909)
Processor: AMD Phenom(tm) II X4 940 Processor, MMX, 3DNow (4 CPUs), ~3.0GHz
Memory: 4096MB RAM
Available OS Memory: 3070MB RAM
Card name: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 285
Display Memory: 2289 MB
DirectX Version: DirectX 11
Free Space: 535.6 GB

So as far as I can see, It should work.

Would anyone happen to have any suggestions as to what the problem may be? What I could do?

Thank you.

Hello and welcome to the TSF.

In addition to trying the instructions by elvenleader3, please make sure that your drivers are updated. Such issues are usually caused due to outdated drivers.

Thanks for the responses.

In order:

- The proccesses running are usually things like:

Although without a web browser obviously, as I generally close that to play a game. And Steam will probably be running, since I bought the games through there.

I have tried several other games, including Steam and Non-Steam ones, and they all work fine (Eg: Left4Dead2, The Sims 3, etc...). Things with higher specs than this one.

- I checked my drivers yesterday and am reasonably sure they are up to date, although I'm not totally sure I was doing it right. I went into control panel, system, device manager and right clicked on them and clicked update and they said they were already up to date (This is the "display adapter" and "high def audio device" - I didn't know if anything others needed doing or not).

- My anti-virus is always on, but It wasn't running a scan or doing much when I tried the game. And I've tried restarting the computer anyway and it still didn't work after that.

I tried that and switched it to Gaming Mode before running it, but it made no difference. So I don't think the proccesses screenshots are going to be much help.

But here they are anyway:

It seems to be quite different, so I don't know what that means if anything.

It only shut down 6 processes which is not to good my advise is manually shutting down all the stuff you dont need in your start up. And ending processes you dont use. Here is a good guide on how to do this. If you don't know what processes to shut down I'll walk you through it if you don't fully understand.
