Please forgive me if this question has been posted. I've found a question similar to this on many a forum, but not quite the same.

Okay, so my boyfriend's computer resolution suddenly became very large. The computer worked perfectly well, the only problems being the resolution and no sound. Being the "whiz" that I thought I was, I managed to change it to a 1024 X 768, albeit with less color quality. At some point his computer was turned off, and came back on to a blank screen. Pretty basic stuff right? Well I went online first and read everything I could. I tried to boot in safe mode, but no dice. I figured that VGA mode would work because its supposedly a simple monitor problem, but this didn't work either.

Please forgive me also, but my boyfriend isn't much of a computer person so he doesn't know much of the specs, and this was my first time coming in contact with said computer, I know very little also... Its a Dell Dimension 4600, running Windows XP, I'm pretty sure Service Pack 2. I'm sorry if this isn't enough information, but I really tried. Any help possible would be much appreciated!

Hi Jess.

You said VGA mode did not work. Can you get to anything in safe VGA mode or is it also a blank display.

If the menu comes up can you try last known good. If you have not been to a login screen since the last time it worked this will load the last successfull login settings.
