The Software Update in my Mac OSX 10.6 offers Security Update 2012-004, size 269Mb, recommended for all users.

I went to the page recommended for extra info Apple security updates.
but didn’t find it of real help to figure out what exactly is doing on.

My questions are:
Where this Security Update (including all its bits and pieces) is installed?
How to identify it ( and its components) and how to remove them if need be?
I am not a techie and any plain English advice will be much appreciated!

Thanks fellow Mac users!

That update was to plug a Java Security hole/patch Java.

On newer versions of Mac OS, they do not even install Java by default anymore because it is security nightmare these days.

As a rule, when it comes to Mac OS updates you cannot pick or choose pieces inside packages. It is all or nothing.... and when it comes to Security updates... I suggest you install them.

In fact, I suggest you install any and all patches that are provided. They are created for a reason, and it is usually to fix something that is broken.
