the evga nForce 680i SLI 775 A1 Version

does this motherboard support the core 2 quad out of the box?

eVGA had several models with the 680i chipset. Which one are you referring to? Can you provide a link?
It supports the 65nm Kentsfield C2Q processors but I do not believe it supports the 45nm Yorksfield C2Q processors. It may in time with a BIOS update though.
That should work. Check the supported CPU list to be sure but I don't think a BIOS update will be necessary.
