This is absolutely my last hope. I want to be able to ccp this from a chat room....... volunteer> yes how can I help you
crying> I lost my best friend today
volunteer> I am sorry to hear that

but all I get is this volunteer> yes how can I help you crying>I lost my best friend today volunteer> I am sorry to hear that

Its not the chat room as my other puter can copy this properly.
And I can't get it to format this way in email, or word document, only notepad.

The text just wraps around so its one large paragraph. I've tried everything.

Please help me, as this is a vital part of my business.

Thanks.......

It sounds like you need to use and editor to replace the prompt characters with a leading return character.

I can't really figure out from your description exactly what process you're trying to do, so it's hard to be specific. Perhaps if you could specifically state what you're trying to accomplish?

I'll try my best. I copy chats for my business.
In the chat room........each person speaking........falls under the next one. So it looks like a list.

a> speaks
b> speaks
a> speaks
b> speaks again

but when I ccp from the chat room to put in an email it automatically come up as a paragragh will everyline running after the other.

I know this is not the chat room as my other puter can copy it the proper way. Also, only when I ccp it into NOTEPAD does it stay in the original format. Because this is so important I would like to know how to keep the original format while being able to ccp in an email.

I hope I was clear, but not too long.

Thanks very much,
Postcard.

It appears that the return/line-feed characters are being stripped. I suspect that you'll have to consider some intermediate process that inserts them again. Obviously, it won't be a 1:1 cut/paste, but I suspect that you could look around for one of the many clipboard enhancers and see if you can find one with a macro capability that would allow you to fix the issue on-the-fly.

If I said I understood what you just told me...............well.......
I wouldn't be posting this now.

Forgive me..............I know what you mean in the general sense..........but to get what you told me to get..............I have no idea whatsoever.

If it's not to much to ask................could you just be a little simpler as to where and how I would go about to fix this.

If you have the patience...................I know I can do this.

Thanks very much,

well

see, i am having this problem also, and i think it is some sort of a notepad defect that it won't auto return. the difference between notepad and wordpad are sorta small, but here is a major one:

note pad is made to accomadate any width of document. im sure it has a limit, but it is like at least 3000 or so spaces long. at least. this means when you type and do not hit return, it will not autoreturn you. wordpad does auto return and most other text editors do also, but notepad is able to handle wide formats also, so it doesnt return untill you press return. i had written some parts of a large story in wordpad, and then i needed to put them into a notepad formula, and i was shocked. it totally messed up my page and it looks nothing like a book, but more like a banner. i still havent found a way to paste from a document that autoreturns into a document that doesnt without having to manually replace all the return marks. anyway, i'm stumped...

What I'm saying is that you need to copy the text in question, paste it into something like Notepad, and save it. Then you can run a utility to replace the > signs a CR/LF and >, then you'll have it in the format you desire for your email. There are any number of utilities that will do this, or you could write one in a script language like PERL. Here's an example of the program I'm talking about, Batch Replacer, there are tons more like this, try a Google search for "Free search & replace utility".

ooh

i see now. i was thinking it was happening because there werent return marks. but what really happens is that the return marks are there when you copy paste, and are there when you drop it into wordpad, but they dissapear when dropped into notepad. and to correct this you put them in a wordpad, and run a replacer. then it replaces them with an older return mark that is recognized easier. is this what youre saying?

if so that would make a ton of sense.

oh wow!

i was using this silly windows modification tool, and it allows me to set the notepad to "text wrap by default".

i am assuming it is using the regitry to do this, and i am about to plunge into the registry and see where and how it makes this change....

if you dont hear from me in a day.....
then i will reinstall and be back.

LOL
